RASCI
RASCI is used to define roles and responsibilities in projects and processes.
RASCI stands for:
Responsible: A single person who is assigned to do the work
Accountable: A single person who is ultimately accountable for the work being completed to expected standards
Support: People who help to complete the work
Consulted: People who are consulted and have some influence over the work
Informed: People who should be kept up-to-date on progress and decisions, but have no influence over the work
RASCI helps to build a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities for anyone interested in an initiative.
The results

- Reduced misunderstandings and conflicts over responsibilities
- Enhanced efficiency and accountability

How to use it?
What do I need to start?
An understanding of the area of work which need roles and responsibilities defined
How to use it?
Who to involve?
- The person accountable for the work area (such as the team manager, project sponsor or process owner)
- Representatives who will be involved in the work
Step by step
1
List tasks
List of activities or deliverables within the area of work. Consider using a Work Breakdown Structure to identify these.
2
List people or roles
List of all team members or roles who will be involved.
3
Identify responsibilities
For each item, determine:
Responsible: What one person or role is responsible for doing the work?
Accountable: What one person or role is accountable, and makes the final decision on if the work is complete and to the standards expected?
Support: Who will provide support to the responsible person?
Consulted: Who should be consulted on the work?
Informed: Who must be informed through development?
Ensure there is one accountable and one responsible person for each item. Support, consulted and informed are optional for each item.
4
Review with stakeholders
Review the RASCI matrix to ensure everyone is aligned and understands their responsibilities.
The review should include all people and roles involved in the work. Adjust as needed.
